Questions about
Coaching
-
People who are looking for more “teal” in their life: self-leadership, wholeness and balance, purpose. Many of my adult clients are in helping professions (ministry, social work, teaching, etc.) or value servant leadership. My younger clients are often high achievers who want to impact the world for good. Very often, my clients are people with a faith background or an openness to spirituality even if they aren’t currently practicing.
-
Absolutely. I have expertise in coaching young people from mid-teens through 20s and 30s. I bring over 20 years of working with other young people, helping them go deeper and making a lasting difference in their lives. Parents, professors, and mentors are important, but sometimes a young person needs someone outside the family, educational, or professional circle who can guide, listen, and understand profoundly. I stand in a unique position, offering just the right blend of compassion and challenge.

I describe coaching as a thought-provoking process where we partner to help you make creative and courageous choices about your life. You’re the thinker, and my job is to help you think - clearly, deeply, broadly. You’ll do most of the talking; I’ll listen and ask powerful questions. I’ll support you as you plan action steps you’d like to take.
Coaching is not advice-giving. While I might offer a tool, resource or suggestion once in a while, you are free to use it or not. I won’t give you the answers or the action plan like a consultant might. Instead, we’ll partner together to help you find and develop the answers and actions you need to lead your life in a way that’s authentically you. -
Coaching and counseling differ in important ways. Counseling usually invites a person to explore past issues, whereas coaching is future-focused. Counseling helps someone who’s not functioning well get into a place of better functioning; coaching helps someone who’s functioning pretty well get to the next level. While coaching can be therapeutic and can bring about some healing, it’s not a substitute for therapy.

Coaching can help “when good enough is no longer good enough” and get you from “good enough” to great. It can help you develop stronger confidence and clarity about yourself, your needs, your strengths, your purpose. A coach listens deeply, asks better questions than most friends do, and offers an objective perspective that helps you find your own best answers and action steps.
-
Both. I’m certified as a Holistic Life, Career and Executive Coach, so I can work with you in any of those areas of life. I can partner with you to improve your leadership performance, and I can help you find more confidence, clarity, balance and joy in life.

Group coaching combines the thought-provoking, powerful questions of coaching with the support and accountability of peers who are walking a similar journey. In group coaching, I might share a skill, concept, or resource, but much of the session will include group members’ reflection and discussion about their progress and challenges.
-
Yes! If you and your friends or co-workers are struggling with a similar challenge, contact me and we’ll design a group series personalized just for your group, at a location (virtual or in-person) and on a schedule that works for you.
We can develop a series to face most challenges that you might be facing, but common topics to address in group coaching are navigating transition, time management, and self-care. -

Questions about
Presentations
-
Many of my presentations have been for adults serving in helping professions (ministry, social work, teaching, etc.), higher education, and small purpose-driven organizations. I have facilitated training sessions with corporate groups and government agencies. I also have extensive experience with high school and college students.
-
Absolutely. In fact, I find my greatest joy in helping young people find their strengths, develop as leaders, and change the world for the better. I am uniquely qualified to work with young people from their mid-teens through 20s and 30s, presenting a powerful message or developing skills in an engaging and relatable manner.
-
Some of my most popular topics are described on the Presentations page, but if you have a particular topic in mind, let’s chat! It’s likely that I can create just the session you need.
-
Either! I’ve done both effectively, and I’m happy to customize my presentation for in-person or online environments. Regardless of the setting, you can be assured that I’ll facilitate a session that engages and involves participants.
-
If you’d like me to! All of my sessions can be offered for general audiences or can integrate a faith-based perspective. I can also offer presentations on specific topics in Catholic or Christian faith and spirituality. But if your organization needs our work together to be “faith-neutral,” that’s no problem.
-
My areas of expertise include discipleship, evangelization, personal spirituality, effective church leadership, and youth and young adult ministry. I also love to highlight the faith connection to most leadership and personal development topics. If there’s a topic or need for your group, church, or ministry, please be in touch so we can see if I’d be a good fit for you.
